L’individuazione delle fondamenta di una torre quadrata entro il torrione circolare, scoperta durante i lavori di restauro, induce a riportare la torre primitiva al XIII secolo, all’epoca della costruzione della cinta muraria e delle torri maggiori, sotto il regno di Mariano II d’Arborea
